{Food Fix} Dragon Fruit

Still trying to keep things interesting around here.

A few weeks ago, I found a Dragon Fruit.

This is one of the fruits I've been wanting to try.

It's got a crazy looking skin, kinda reminds me of a flower bulb that hasn't bloomed yet.

Inside is a beautiful white flesh and lots of little black seeds.

I was expecting the flesh to be a bit crunchier but it was quite soft.  The seeds were a lot like the seeds in a kiwi.  It had a sweet flavor but not very strong.
Different.
I saved Jaelyn some, and he killed it.  I was surprised he liked it so much.

Have you ever had Dragon Fruit?

{Food Fix} Food Find - Jif Mocha Cap

While wandering the aisles of Target, I spotted this.

Hmm, what do we have here?  I thought to myself.

Mocha Cappuccino flavored Hazelnut Spread.

I like the sound of that.

Of course I had to try it.  Which has the potential to be really good, but really bad too.

I hope it's not so good, that I get hooked and can't stop eating it.

When I finally got to try it, I opted for a plentiful spread on a slice of whole grain bread.

Folded it over and took a bite.
Delish!!!

Smooth and creamy!
Chocolately and Mocha-y!

So good.

I really did want another, but I also want to look good in my jeans, so I quickly screwed the lid back on the jar and returned it to the cabinet.

{Food Fix} Thai That

A few weeks ago while cruising the aisles of Trader Joes, I spotted a jar of Thai Red Curry sauce. I love me some Thai food so I was curious to try it.

Tonight I finally got around to cooking it.

I chopped up some veggies and baked some chicken breast, sautéed it all together and added the sauce. Served it over some rice to complete it. Delish! It was really tasty! I will definitely be making it again.

{Food Fix} Mango Butter

During a recent trip to TJ's I spotted this Mango Butter.
I had to try it.
I mean the name itself says "You'll love me"

Last fall, I tried the Pumpkin Butter, you can read about it in this post.
I loved it and used it in so many ways, so of course I was expecting the same with this Mango Butter.

And just as I expected, it is delish too.

Here I tried it on an english muffin.
If you like mango, you'll love this Mango Butter.

{Food Fix} Just another Skinny Cow

No, I'm not talking about some skinny chick, I'm talking about Skinny Cow's new candy products.

I recently posted about their Heavenly Crisp candy bar here.

And today I tried the Dreamy Clusters.

A candy treat of chocolate, crisps and caramel.

What's not to love?

You get about 6 in a pack, so it's easy not to over do it and eat too many.

NI isn't bad.
120 Cals
6g fat
3g fiber
Like the Heavenly Crisp, they were pretty good.
I'd definately buy them again to keep on hand for a chocolate bite.

Have you tried either product before?

{Food Fix} Skinny Cow escaped the freezer

Skinny Cow makes some of my fave frozen treats.  I love their ice cream sandwiches.

So when I found this little candy crisp bar at the store I was surprised.  I had no idea they were making candy now too.
You know I had to try it.

Only 110 calories.  Not bad when your craving some chocolate and want a sweet treat.

The entire bar is dipped in chocolate, not just topped with it like many other low-cal candy bars.

The wafers inside are crispy
and are sandwiched between creamy chocolate.

I have to say.  I'm not surprised at how great it was.  I was expecting it to taste great and satisfy my sweet tooth.  Which it did.

Have you tried this product yet?
What did you think?

{Food Fix} Tasted - Meatless Meat

I'm not afraid to try new things.  Esp. after hearing good reviews.
And lately I've been hearing alot about meatless crumbles.
"You can't tell the difference", "They're great", "Taste much like the real thing".
Just a few of the comments I've heard about meatless crumbles.
So of course, being the curious little foodie that I am, I decided to check them out for myself.
~~~
My supermarket sells a couple different brands, but I chose Boca since I like a lot of thier products.
This is what it looks like straight out of the bag, still frozen.
After sauteing it with some EVOO, onions and mushrooms, I tossed it in some spaghetti sauce and added noodles.  Topped with some mozza cheese.
Next, was the moment of truth.
I took a bite.
Not bad.
Another bite.
No, not bad at all.
I have to be honest and say, it wasn't all that I had been hearing of it.
It definitely didn't taste just like the real thing, but it was good.
The texture wasn't bad either.  A bit softer than regular ground meat but not mushy.
I can't say, I love it, or if I'll even purchase it again, but I can say, it made for a quick lunch.  I still have some left in the freezer, so I'm going to try to prepare it a different way next time.
Maybe tacos?
I'll let you know.
{Food Fix} Tasted
Have you tried this?
You know me, although I love to cook and bake, I'm always looking for items I can keep on hand for that fast and easy meal.
So, of course, once I saw this in the store, I had to try it.
{Lean Cuisine Market Creations}
Not bad, not bad at all.
I liked a couple of things about this entree.
  1. It was tasty.
  2. It was quick and easy
  3. It was filling
  4. It comes in a bag, so you have to actually plate it to eat it (much better than those black plastic trays most frozen dinner come it)
So there you have it.  Another tried and tasted food product.
I give it a thumbs up.
{Food Fix} Amy's Mexican Tamale Pie
I like having quick and easy options in my freezer for those days when I don't have time to fix and entire meal, or when I'm just being plain lazy.
So,
when I found this little box in the freezer section of my grocery store, I had to buy it.
I've been a fan of Amy's products for a while now, (esp. the soups) so I figured this couldn't be too bad.
Check out the nutrionals, pretty impressive for a frozen product.
I like the sauce bubbling and oozing out.
Yummy veg inside.
Yum!
This was delish.  The filling was flavorful, healthy and filling.
I'll be buying it again, for sure.
{Food Fix] Food Find ~ Oloves
Do you like olives?
I happen to really like olives and they were something I craved with my first pregnancy.
My mom found these snack packs of olives called Oloves.
With no preservatives and only 40 cals per pack, they are a perfect little snack to keep handy.
They come in 2 flavors. I tried the Tasty Mediterranean: basil and garlic.
Delish.
I can't buy these again.
It was bad, real bad.
But they were good, real good.
Food Review
Morning Star Farms Hickory BBQ Riblets.
"Mouthwatering veggie riblets in a sweet and smoky sauce" (That's what it says on the box)
Nutrition Facts for 1 riblet with sauce
Calories 220
Total Fat 3.5g
Sodium 810g (wowza)
Total Carbs 35g
Protein 18gWere they as good as some real meaty ribs slow smoked on the grill? Of course not.
Did they stay true to the claim of mouthwatering? No
Sweet? Yes Smoky? Yes
Was I surprised at how good they were? Yes
Would I buy them again? Yes
I really was surprised at the texture and taste of this product. It was moist, sweet and had a great BBQ flavor.
I know this is a really random plate of food.
What in the world does a pita with hummus have to do with vegan BBQ ribs and a side of cheese topped cauliflower?
One thing - they were all fast to get on the plate.
Last Chance to win.
Today is the last day to enter my Yoplait Greek Yogurt giveaway.
I gave it a try the other day. I chose to try the honey vanilla, since that is the flavor yogurt I eat the most.
I added a touch of cinnamon and some granola. It turned out pretty good. On it's own it was a little too tangy for me so the additions made it yummy. I'm still interested in trying the other flavors.
Curious to try for yourself? Just enter my giveaway and you could try it for free. You will also win a spa package including a wrap towel, slippers and spa brushes.
